Try Your Luck at a St. Patrick’s Day Cheese & Charcuterie Board

March 8, 2023

Everyone is a little Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Known for its parades, traditions, shamrocks, leprechauns and the color green, St. Patty’s Day is a widely celebrated holiday for the Irish and non-Irish alike.

Ingredients and Products

Cheeses

  • Double Creme Brie – Brie, in my opinion, is the most versatile cheese in terms of creating themed boards. Using cookie cutters, jams, herbs and fruit, you can essentially (and very easily) create anything out of it.
  • Herb Goat Cheese – The combination of green herbs makes it the perfect fit for this themed board. Plus its creamy texture and flavor is perfection!
  • Pesto Gouda – Honestly, enough said.
  • Irish Porter Cheddar – Packed with genuine beer, this smooth textured cheese offers the strong flavors of aged cheddar and Irish beer.
  • Marinated Mozzarella Balls
  • Champagne Cheddar – The wax rind on this particular flavor of cheese is dark green. Although the waxy rind is not edible, it’s perfect for adding some green to your board. Using a sharp knife or wire slicer, remove the cheese from the rind. Cube the cheese you removed. Place your waxy rind on your board and fill with the cheese cubes.

Meats – I chose not add meats on this board because it through the coloring off for me. But you can totally add anything you like. My go to charcuterie meat is Dry Salami. It’s very versatile in styling and pairings.

Nuts

Fruits and Veggies

  • Olives – Did you know olives are technically a fruit?! A stone fruit to be exact.
  • Cucumbers – I love layering cucumber slices on my boards. It’s important to make  note that if you use cucumbers, use them on a board that you are serving right away. Because they are full of water, they don’t hold up overnight.
  • Broccoli – The rich green color of broccoli adds some nice green hues as well as the florets giving the board depth.
  • Green Grapes
  • Kiwi – I used fresh and dried!
  • Green Apple

Chocolates & Sweets

Tools & Props

Using a sharp knife or handheld cheese wire, slice the top of the brie off (about 1/4 inch). On the top part of the brie that you just sliced off, using a  shamrock cookie cutter, create your cutout.

Tip: Re-purpose the cookie cutter and place it on your board to fill with nuts later on.

Using a sharp knife or wire slicer, remove the cheese from the rind. Cube the cheese you removed. Place your waxy rind on your board and fill with the cheese cubes. Fill two small bowls or ramekins with the olives and marinated mozzarella.

Plate the rest of your cheeses on your board.

Your fruits and veggies are up next. Tip for plating  grapes – if you can’t find a good bunch, cut the bunch apart and layer to create your own “bunch.”

Next add your dried fruits, chocolates and macarons.

Lastly, garnish with fresh herbs and greenery.
